Daily Rant: The Young Turks’ Cenk Uygur explains why some of the GOP’s proposals this year are downright scary.

MSNBC TRANSCRIPT:
>>> well u. when it comes to the budget, democrats and republicans rarely see eye to eye, we know this. but cenk uygur thinks some of the gop’s proposals go beyond eye to eye and do the domain of downright scary. the hardest-working man in the news business, host of the young turks show, and host of his hour here on msnbc, he’s here with the daily rant.

>> i got it from here. when you look at republican and democratic priorities, we’ve got trouble, okay? when you look at the republican parties, work with me here, i’m going to show you. for example, one of the things they want to cut is centers for disease control, cut by $156 million. disease, who needs to fight that? by the way, in california we now have one of the worst whooping cough outbreaks in the last 50 years. it’s killed ten infants and sickened 6,400 people. normally republicans love these kinds of cuts, because it hits the poor, the middle class, but i’ve got news for you, disease doesn’t care what class you’re in. it’s not like it stops at a rich guy and says, i do declare, there’s a fine gentleman, i won’t enter him, no, disease spreads everywhere. another thing that they have cut or are planning or proposing to cut is conservatives, saying the poor, they get too much anyway. let’s cut medicaid, let’s cut family assistance, food stamps. you know how much they want to cut it? over the next ten years by $1.4 trillion. this is what you call redistribution of wealth, and it goes from the poor and middle class straight up to the rich. the tax will not be raised for the rich under the republican proposals. this is fascinating. what they want to do is cut $600 million from the irs budget. if they do that, it actually costs the budget more money. that costs us $4 billion that we would get in collection from tax cheats, so why — unless you wanted to protect the tax cheats, unless the people who pay your bills have offshore can see in the cayman islands and they want to cheat on their taxes, so they think, great, let me buy a couple congress men and make it much easier for me to cheat on my taxes. i’m sorry. they call it tax avoidance. wouldn’t we all like to avoid our taxes? all right. now, to the other side of the priorities, bernie sanders in the senate, he has a plan. he says, you know what? let’s do a 5.4% surtax on only people making it over a million, and making only over a million. so the first million is exactly, but a dollar over a million gets a surtax. that would raise 50 billion, and you wouldn’t have to make any cuts. how about representative shakowski. she says above a million, and only above a million and above a billion it’s 49%, where they can clearly afford it. that would rate $79 billion. the republicans only cut $61 billion. she would raise more money and it will only hit the millionaires. of course the republicans hate that. they never want to touch the millionaires. they want to cut for the disease, for the irs, and of course they want to cut money for the poor as well. that’s their priorities.

>> all right. um, i have a lot to say, obviously, but i have very little time, so i’m going to refrain from any of it. how is the baby?

>> the baby is good. the baby is great. he’s in new york, famous thanks to you. got recognized at a gap.

>> the only legitimate young turk left in the room is your young child. it’s a
