Say what you will about Donald trump, and there is much to be said. I’ll say this; his request for a five million dollar payday from CNN in order to participate in the political debates in December is pure genius. Not because he is worth five million dollars, if anything, he is worth more to the debates, but because his request for compensation in the debates calls out the debates for what they really are: Highly produced, politically themed TV shows, not actual debates about the presidency and politics of the United States.

That is a tragic development for our country, but one we need to be honest about in order to fix it. If nothing else, Donald Trump is forcing us to confront of the reality that what we call “political debates” are really politically themed TV shows and we need to actually go back to find a political debate, which is currently lacking in our current system.
