6 citizens sue Trump, saying media ban deprives them of news as audience stakeholders
Selected by Dylan Ratigan.
Six citizens filed a federal suit arguing that White House restrictions on news organizations impair the public's own First Amendment interest in receiving independent reporting. Plaintiffs include a teacher, student journalist, historian, human-rights advocate and journalists.
Unlike media-company cases, the suit seeks a broad injunction against retaliation that would protect access to White House reporting for the public. Existing press-access litigation continues, and the administration argues journalists can report from outside the White House.
