The Pentagon Gave $350 Million in Contracts to a Firm Closely Tied to a Senior Defense Department Official
Selected by Dylan Ratigan.
ProPublica’s review of records found that Alvarez & Marsal received nearly $350 million in Pentagon consulting work after George Kollitides entered senior Defense Department roles. The firm’s federal awards in the period were about five times its total across the preceding two decades; one $281 million no-bid contract went to an office where Kollitides held a role. The reporting also describes his connection to A&M Capital when the contract was signed.
The story puts public contracting, private-sector ties and ethics oversight in the same frame. The Pentagon says ethics laws were followed, while the companies say the relevant entities operate separately. The records raise questions about safeguards and process, but do not establish that Kollitides personally benefited from or decided the awards.
