Trump administration attempting to prosecute former FBI Director James Comey again
Selected by Dylan Ratigan.
AP reports that the Justice Department filed a criminal information on October 5 to extend the limitations period in a case concerning a 2016 leak to The New York Times. Comey's lawyers argue the filing is invalid because the statute required an indictment within ten years; that request remains before a judge.
The Justice Department says the procedure is recognized in federal court and calls the matter an ongoing investigation. This is the administration's third attempt to bring charges against Comey; the previous perjury case was dismissed after a judge found the prosecutor was illegally appointed.
